I received an email from a friend of mine who is looking to start her own career services company. She is also very self-motivated, so I thought I’d share my own self-awareness tips to help her in her pursuit of her own career.

Located an hour north of Cincinnati and an hour west of the state capital, Columbus, Ohio, the University of Dayton is a top-tier Catholic research university. We offer a full-time residential JD program and a part-time Online Hybrid JD program, providing a distinguished tradition of concern for the individual student in a challenging yet supportive environment. Dayton Law’s student body of approximately 300 promotes ample opportunity for one-on-one interaction with faculty, staff, and classmates, creating an atmosphere of collegiality. Handshake is the University of Dayton’s online service used to connect students, alumni and employers. PSJD, formerly PSLawNet, is a job bank for public interest and government jobs.

In Educational Leadership, and students can also create a customized joint degree program. Our Law Clinic provides the invaluable opportunity for students to work with real clients, attorneys and judges. Clinic areas of law include civil, criminal, immigration and intellectual property. An education at the University of Dayton School of Law will prepare you to make an impact anywhere. We teach students how to use their knowledge of the law as a tool to help people resolve their legal problems as well as community and global issues.

Working with employers, Career Services provides opportunities for companies to connect with students and alumni through career fairs, on-campus interviews, social media and company information sessions. The Career Services Office offers recruiting services free of charge to employers, students, and alumni. Employers have myriad avenues to recruit students, including on-campus interviewing, resume collection services, and direct contact postings. Employers may also post part-time and full-time job openings for our students and alumni.

Services and programs are created to facilitate career planning efforts and to maximize potential for employment. His work-study assistant position puts him on the business side of UDayton, where he works with the college’s investment portfolio, audit teams, and annual report. And with the university’s large endowment—$568 million—MBA finance students like Hao get more resources and research opportunities at a campus job. University of Dayton Career Services assists UD students and alumni with career-related needs from admission to retirement.

However, commitment, motivation, leadership and a breadth and depth of experiences are also a part of the applicant review. Decisions are made on a rolling basis beginning in November and continuing through late spring/early summer. Please note that admissions and decision deadlines for the Online Hybrid JD differ from the residential program. Thanks to a partnership with the St. Mary’s University School of Law, students at Dayton Law have the opportunity to take part in our Summer Study Abroad Program in Innsbruck, Austria. We believe experiential learning is so important that we offer practical training in essential lawyering skills beginning in your first year with our highly respected Legal Profession Program. You will receive training in important skills, such as accessing and understanding legal authority and effectively communicating legal analysis.

The Employer Engagement Center House has two floors, but does not have an elevator. Technology-enabled rooms (e.g. computer, webcam) are also available upon request.
