Before it was too late to change my hair removal regimen, I regret that I never listened to my doctor or listened to my friends and learned enough about hair removal to really ask questions about it. Before starting laser hair removal, I used to sit in fear of it. I had no idea what was going to happen or how it was going to change my life. The first week was the worst. I woke up the morning after the surgery to find my hair had completely fallen out.
What I found out about laser hair removal is that it’s not for the faint of heart. After a few weeks of using it, the hair fell naturally out. The problem is that lasers can burn something like a finger or a hand, so you’re left with a very visible scar. The good news is that the process is relatively painless. The downside is that there are side effects and they can include an increased risk of cancer.
The bad news is that there is a good chance that you may have a hair-loss problem if you choose to laser your hair. The good news is that laser hair removal is relatively safe. The bad news is that you may have to get a new laser every six months or so. The good news is that you have the option of having it done by an plastic surgeon.
That’s right, plastic surgeons. The good news is that you can get your laser hair done at a local salon. The bad news is that you have the chance of getting a hair transplant instead. The good news is that you don’t have to wait for your hair to grow back before you can do laser hair removal. The bad news is that it’s not a quick fix. You can expect to have to get your hair trimmed by a plastic surgeon every three years.
I think this is completely accurate. I was in the salon twice for laser hair removal. Each time I had to wait about three hours to get my hair trimmer and other equipment, and that’s without any real, live patients. I think the wait time will be longer for people who don’t have a family member nearby.
I guess this is the main reason I’m against laser hair removal. I think it’s a very painful procedure that requires your entire body to be covered with sticky chemicals. You’re supposed to be able to do this the old fashioned way, but I’m not sure how that works. I have no idea if it’s a more effective way to get rid of hair, just that the procedure is more painful than a laser. But for some reason, I’m not sold on the idea.
Laser hair removal is no more effective than a standard razor. But that doesn’t mean it’s less painful. The main difference between a laser and a razor is that a laser uses carbon dioxide. This chemical is a pain killer and the carbon dioxide causes inflammation in the skin. So, again, the main reason Im not sold on laser hair removal is it’s painful.
Laser hair removal is also more expensive. But, as with shaving, the real price you pay with laser hair removal is the potential for permanent damage to the follicle, and the permanent damage is more extreme.
The fact that you don’t have to shave your head anymore is the single biggest benefit. But, as with laser hair removal, the biggest downside is the permanent damage that can occur to the follicle. This can, in some instances, lead to hair loss.
As it turns out, laser hair removal is more expensive than shaving, but not nearly as much as it is for shaving. For instance, I could easily see me having a laser hair removal for $250, and a regular shaving for $50. That means you’re paying $250 out of your own pocket for laser hair removal, compared to $5 for shaving.
