The one surgeon could cut you up, but the other surgeon could only remove the hair that is already on your skin. And because the new hair would be growing elsewhere, it wouldn’t be able to grow back on your body.
In order to do laser hair removal on a pilonidal cyst, the surgeon will have to cut the cyst open and then put laser light into the cyst to ablate the hair. It’s not quite the same as the old way, but it’s close enough.
What’s more, the surgeon can remove hair that is already there by removing the cyst and the cyst will then be left with a scar for a few months. So if you like your hair back, this may not seem like a big deal, but it is.
